Rodney Duncan, B.S., D.V.M.

I have been blessed with loving what I do every day, caring for the precious animal companions of our valued clients.

Faced with many career choices in the early 60's, my decision to pursue veterinary medicine was shaped by encouragement from my Dad who valued "being your own boss", love for the outdoors, and memorable weekends spent participating in field trials with our family's collection of German Shorthair Pointers. My admission to Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine, class of 1972, was the highlight of my young adult life. Throughout my veterinary school years, I was fortunate to be associated with Michigan Road Animal Hospital (MRAH) through summer employment and my senior internship. Being associated with a practice of the caliber and reputation of MRAH was something I could only daydream about. Little did I realize that after a two year tour of service as Base Veterinarian in the U.S.A.F. I would return to MRAH as associate Veterinarian, owner, and now Senior Partner. I am truly blessed.

In order to remain a premier small animal veterinary practice in Indianapolis, Indiana, MRAH places great importance on challenging it's Veterinarians, Technicians, Client Service Associates, and Veterinary Assistants to study and keep abreast of current veterinary practices. I encourage all of my staff, as well as myself, to grow through continuing education workshops, veterinary conferences, and in-hospital staff meetings to provide the best quality service possible. I have also completed a veterinary management program through Krannert School of Business at Purdue University. I spend a significant amount of my time managing the practice.

Both my professional and personal life have been rich and rewarding. My wife Barbara and I have celebrated 35 years of marriage, and have three wonderful children. Two cats, a Tonkanese "Kringle" and a Persian "Merlin", and a French Bulldog "Lou-Lou" complete our household. Our family likes to travel with our favorite destinations being those that allow us to Scuba dive and lay in the sun! I also serve as an Elder in a local nondenominational church body, and am blessed to be surrounded by caring family and friends.

So... my Dad was wise in shaping my choice of veterinary medicine. It has been a fulfilling and challenging profession that I love. However, he was wrong about one thing... I am not "my own boss". Our valuable clients are my "boss", and I have made it my goal to work hard to be worthy of the trust they put in me every day as I serve them in providing the best medical attention I can give.
