Max

Max is about 15 years old. Having seen a picture of a Bombay , I tell him he must be related. You can see he is very helpful around the house. Max is very loving and laid back, and spends much time napping on my 90 year old lap. He is a very special kitty in my daily routine.

In August of 2005, Max became very ill – he was losing weight quickly, was jaundiced, and wanted to spend all his time off by himself. We brought him to Michigan Road Animal Hospital where he was hospitalized for 3 days with antibiotics and IV fluids. He was sent home with more medications, a diet change, and a charge to watch him carefully for vomiting and lethargy. The diagnosis was pancreatitis and inflammatory bowel, but the cause was difficult to determine. He had no interest in eating, so we began placing soft food in his mouth and used a syringe for water. We held him, talked to him, and said many prayers.

Late in August, when Max had a follow-up appointment, we were fortunate to have a veterinarian from Purdue in the office that day, a specialist in radiology. Max had an ultrasound that included his liver and spleen. His liver was very dense and inflamed, and there were other medical words that meant Max was extremely ill. The good news – his hepatic cells were normal and there was no malignancy.

Max was put on prednisone and continued taking it for the next few weeks. As he began to regain his strength and his appetite, he was taken off the medication. He continues now with a special diet and has his liver enzymes checked regularly. Dr. Fletcher and Dr. Duncan were so gentle and caring with Max, and with his whole family, and brought our Max back to us. He's our Miracle Kitty and we are thankful every day for him and for the wonderful medical care he received.
