With great anticipation, we finally opened our new facility-Zionsville Animal Hospital, at 1305 Parkway Drive in Zionsville (behind the National City Bank and next to Zionsville Eye Clinic). The new building is huge and at 6400 square feet, we have lots of room to grow. We have five spacious exam rooms within steps of the front desk for expeditious care and attention. You can check out our grooming area, literally, with viewing windows located right in our lobby. Our spacious treatment and surgery rooms boast state-of-the-art equipment. Our open, warm waiting areas have a "family room feel" and come complete with a kid's nook for your little one's enjoyment.

Surgical Laser Capabilities at MRAH

Technology by definition is always changing. Surgical lasers have been used in human medicine for 20 years. Recently this technology has become available and affordable to us in veterinary medicine for enhanced surgical care for our pets. We are happy to report we now can provide this technology for your pets' surgical procedures with less pain, less swelling, less bleeding and quicker recovery times.

Michigan Road Animal Hospital now owns a surgical CO2 laser unit. Basically the CO2 laser "excites" carbon dioxide molecules to a point they release light energy. It is this energy that is brought to bear on a very small tip enabling the surgeon to make very fine incisions. The surgeon is able to use it anywhere he or she would have used a scalpel in the past. Laser technology has distinct advantages in the area of soft tissue and skin surgeries. In particular the feline declaw laser technique is extremely beneficial. We see our feline friends experiencing no bleeding and much shorter recuperation time.

As you might expect, new technologies come with higher price tags and we do, in general, have increased fees when using the laser unit. We are truly excited to offer you and your pets this state-of-the-art technology for improved healthcare for your four-legged family members. Diagnostic ultrasound has become an integral part of diagnostic imaging in our practice. We are excited about our cutting-edge technology machine. With multi-frequency transducers, we are capable of imaging everything from kitty hearts to doggy livers. In addition, our new machine has Doppler capability for doing cardiovascular studies. Though neither Dr. Duncan nor Dr. Hurd are certified radiologists, both have taken in-depth practitioner sabbaticals at Purdue University learning and practicing the use of ultrasound and feel confident in most imaging situations. Dr. Widmer, a Board Certified Veterinary Radiologist at Purdue Veterinary School, continues to consult and make on-site visits to review x-ray and ultrasound imaging. He is available to do imaging himself here at Michigan Road Animal Hospital when special arrangements are made. We are excited to be able to improve the services we can provide for your pets, our patients.
