| Preventative
Medicine
We believe in preventative medicine as the best approach to keeping our patients healthy. This includes annual examinations, vaccinations on a yearly or every three-year basis, external and internal parasite prevention, and dietary management.
Medicine
We provide general
internal medicine procedures and diagnostics should your pet become ill, or have a current condition. Our doctor's are familiar with the management of various diseases such as: diabetes, seizure disorders, kidney and liver maladies, gastrointestinal problems, cardiac diseases, and more. We can provide echocardiograms and blood pressure evaluations when necessary.
Surgery
We have complete surgical facilities for orthopedic surgery, soft tissue
surgery, and minor diseases of the eye. Our surgical laser unit is utilized for all of our feline declaws, and can be used for other surgical procedures as well. We routinely provide neutering, spaying
and declawing services. During surgery patients are given inhalation gas anesthesia and are carefully monitored with
equipment that measures their pulse and heart rate.
Geriatric Care Program
We encourage comprehensive health screenings and early detection programs
for aging pets. A geriatric consultation can determine what services, blood work, and/or dietary management your older pet needs for continued happiness. This is especially pertinent for those pets with arthritis issues who may need our help with pain management.
Dentistry
Our doctor's and trained staff provide dental examinations, cleaning, prophylaxis, and fluoride treatments. Dental x-rays and extractions are performed when needed. Special care is taken to provide dental care instruction for continued oral health.
Laboratory Diagnostics
Our laboratory can provide various analyses including blood profiles, urinalysis, culturing, and histopathology.
Diagnostic
Imaging
Our onsite radiology
(x-ray) services are available should your pet be in need. OFA certification is available. We offer diagnostic
ultrasound for our patients, as well as through referral from other local veterinarians. The images can be recorded to disc, or printed out for the patient's record. Dr. R. Widmer, board certified radiologist,
is available to review radiographs and ultrasound imaging's twice a month.
Hospitalization and Intensive Care
If hospitalizing your pet is necessary, our facility can provide
the nursing care, treatment and intensive hospitalized care needed to allow
a speedy recovery of your pet.
Behavioral Counseling
From puppy and kittenhood through adulthood, advice and counseling are available on a case by case basis.
Nutritional Needs
We carry a full line of prescription pet foods for management
of specific disease states. We also carry a line of
premium pet foods for the best nutrition possible, at our Zionsville location. Our staff
is well qualified to help you select the best food for your
pet.

Boarding
Michigan Road Animal Hospital provides short term boarding (up to 3 weeks)for our clients. Pets who need medications, or those pets with special needs are welcome and encouraged to stay with us while their owner's are away. If you would like your pet to see one of our Doctors, have a routine procedure, or be groomed during their stay we would be happy to make those arrangements. Feel free to call our office for more information and reservations.
Daycare
Today more than ever people are busy! Running here, running
there! We are always under a time crunch! For that reason we
invite you to drop off your pet for any of the services we provide.
We take special steps in order to communicate with you before,
during, and after dropping off your pet for care. Often our
clients take advantage of the ability to drop off their pet
in the morning and pick up in the afternoon. Late pick up is
available on Monday and Thursday evenings. We make every effort to help you
fit your pet's healthcare needs into your busy schedule as painlessly
as possible.
Microchipping
Microchips are a safe,
permanent means of pet identification. Unlike a collar and tag that can slip away, or be taken off--a microchip stays with your pet forever. We strongly encourage the microchipping of all pets, and can provide this service without an appointment.
Tour
Groups
We
welcome school and service groups to tour our facility. Field
trips to our hospital are always a great deal of fun! We feel
we have a responsibility to the community and veterinary medicine
to encourage education about our field of endeavor. Please call
for more information.
Public
Speaking
Several
of our doctors are available for speaking engagements at breed
clubs, school classrooms, scouting events, etc. We only need
to work out the scheduling. Please call our office for more
information.
Cremation
Services
Michigan Road Animal Hospital has a crematory onsite for private pet cremations. Our client service associates can help you with your decision on an urn, indoor, or outdoor memorial for your pet. Please call either of our offices if you would like further information or have any questions.
